Upgrade From Live Sync to Live Mesh RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've been using Live Sync successfully across 5 computers and wondering what the process is to move to Live Mesh.  Can they live together or do I have to uninstall and re-install?

  • You can run them both on the same computer.

You should *not* point both to the same folder, though. If you do, you will probably encounter data loss. If you wish to use both, they need to be synchronizing different folders.

At this point, based on rumors about the next version of Windows Live programs and services, I would not switch to Live Mesh right now unless you have a specific need that can't wait. Rumors indicate that we'll see Live Sync and Live Mesh merged in the future.

  • Steve,

Thanks for the quick and useful response.  I don't have a pressing need, so I definately will wait and see what evolves.  I was afraid there would be a conflict is trying to synchronize the same folder with both applications.
