  • Can I use the system restore disk I created when I purchased my computer to format a new hard drive for my Acer laptop?

  • Hello phatboy,

While you can use that software to install XP (as long as the Acer laptop has an XP product key and you use it to do the install) I, however, recommend against it.  Laptops can have proprietary hardware that may not work correctly (if at all) if the proper drivers are not installed.  It is always best to use the restore software that was made for that specific computer model.  If you don't have that software, a replacment can usually be obtained from the computer's Manufacturer.  But if you do decide to use that other software, be sure you have downloaded all the proper drivers needed to have the Acer laptop run correctly.

    Hope that helps,
