How to make my copy of Windows XP genuine?

Question
-
I had bought a HP laptop from my college a long time ago installed with the official version of Windows XP Professional. I had stopped using the laptop some years ago as the screen was damaged. (Even today it has a product key stuck to the bottom of the laptop)
Years later today I got the screen fixed and started the laptop and now it is saying the product key I have entered is invalid and that I may be a victim of software counterfeiting

Since you state that the HP/Compaq laptop has a Windows XP Pro Certificate of Authenticity affixed to it, try the Product Key Updater to see if it can "genuine-ize" your Windows installation.

Unfortunately, there is no way to genuine-ize the nongenuine pirated installation of Office 2007 that is on the computer, so please uninstall Office at your earliest opportunity.

Unfortunately, your MGA Report shows a Volume License version of Windows XP Professional whose product key had been blocked by Microsoft at the request of the original owner of the Volume License. You'll need to reformat your hard drive and install a genuine version of Windows, such as Windows 7 Professional - Full Version.
Please note that since your PC was manufactured in 2004, it might be best to just recycle that old PC and purchase a new one that comes with Windows preinstalled.
