cannot install live mesh on new windows 7 computer

Question
-
I had live mesh installed on old computer (xp). I used pc mover to migrate everything from old pc to new windows 7 pro 64 bit machine. Tried to sign on, would not work, even though little icon said mesh starting. I tried to uninstall live mesh. Would not uninstall. Got error message to the effect of "use msi appropriate for your processor". Went through windows explorer and tried to delete all of live mesh. Finally successful in that, although at first got message that I could not delete as certain files were open on live desktop. Signed out of live dekstop and then deleted files. No Live Mesh files appear on my explorer list anywhere. However, Live Mesh icon still appears when I go to uninstall. Can't reinstall as I get error message that Live Desktop is waiting for install to finish or that Live Mesh is installed already. Please help. Love this program and have it on three other machines.Tuesday, November 17, 2009 11:21 PM

Thank you JimR1. I will try this when I get in to the office tomorrow. Do you know, will this work on a Windows 7 64 bit system as well as Vista?Bob FaganWednesday, November 18, 2009 3:00 AM

Bob, I don't know if it will work or not but it's worth a try. Let us know how it goes.

I'm going to recommend that you perform System Restore to the point before you used PC Mover to move your programs and data to the Windows 7 machine. Then, if that program allows you to specify what to restore, unselect Live Mesh and install it fresh.
It never ceases to amaze me that companies push programs like PC Mover to move programs and settings to a new OS. This can cause all kinds of problems. Live Mesh is an Explorer shell extension as well as a service and uses specific identification for the machine to become part of your Mesh. Moving the app from one PC to another just isn't going to work.
I realize that reinstalling and reconfiguring can be daunting, but it is a safer and better experience. Microsoft has made the Windows Easy Transfer utility available on the Windows disc to easily migrate data and settings from one PC to another - which is the safer alternative to trying to move programs.

JimR1 - Thank you so much for your help. I deleted the designated registry keys and Livemesh installed and is working fine.
Thank you again,
