NAV vs. AX Comparison

Question
-
Hi
I know that this question is a bit off-topic in CRM forum, though, I did not find a MSDN forum for NAV/AX. I'm quiet sure that I'm not the first person asking that question but I cannot find a matching thread.
I'm looking for a comparison of Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Navision) and AX (Axapta). Prefered somewhere at microsoft.com pages.
I found several source which say:
- Below 250 Users (don't know if per seat or concurrent) take NAV; above take AX
- If company has only one location take NAV; otherwise AX
These are generally a nice statements, but I'm missing the "Why the one or the other?".
We are a mid-sized company looking for a new ERP system and we decided to take Dynamics. We are about 170 people in one location so NAV seems to be the right decision. However, why is AX not the right choice?
I know that AX supports financial accounting for different countries in one system and AX provides some sync modules to manage distributed database servers. But why is NAV the better for us? Is AX more expensive? Does NAV provide some more features?
I'd really apprechiate a link or something alike that explains those "why"s.
Thanks a bunch!FloFriday, August 20, 2010 12:59 PM

Hi
So here's a very sloppy excerpt of what I've read
AX
+ Stronger built-in project management
+ Scales better with hundrets of concurrent users
+ Better for virtualization
+ Multi-site support
+ Stronger financial reporting on month level
- Modules are more expensive
NAV
+ Higher Usability
+ Fast rapid development
+ 20 - 200 users (also used with > 1000 users)
+ More mature
- Weak Project Management
+ Easier to adopt to distinct business requirements
+ Stronger financial reporting on transactions
+ More, cheapter modules (warehouse, production, returns management) out of the box
Thank you very much, RhettClinton

Hi Ranjitsingh
Thank you too. Read the article and combined with Rhett's information I'm quiet sure that NAV is the best ERP plattform for our requirements.

Hi
At Renown we supply 3 of the 4 Microsoft Dynamics products. I have had this type of question proposed to me by potential Clients on a number of occasions.
Also, Microsoft themselves provide positioning of the products, Positioning Dynamiocs AX vs NAV, vs GP, vs SL on thier website.
Here is our webpage on it with the relevant information. Hope it helps.

Dialog is constantly asked this question “why Microsoft Dynamics AX vs NAV, GP etc.
We wrote a page on it, including Microsoft’s own positioning;

If you want to know more about Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012, I have that:
