OGA: Notification (KB949810) Fails to install: error code 0x80070643

Question
-
The above mentioned priority update fails every time I try to install it (thus preventing me from connecting to my wifi network at school). I've spoken with the microsoft support team over the phone, after hours of work he suggested to remove M. Office Ultimate 2007 via a "fix it" utility @ support.microsoft.com/kb/971179 and then to reinstall M. Office Ultimate 2007. After doing so I still get the same error, and its the only update left to install.
- I've also tried removing OGA from the task schedule, and enabling the Office serach engine via services.msc.
-- Any advice would be greatly apprecatied!

Hello MLJones8,
We have had reports that if the task scheduler service is not running then the KB949810 update may not install.
The other thing we have been told is that sometimes deleting previous OGA related scheduled tasks can get the KB949810 update installed. However you already tried that one.
Regardless of the content or nature of the update, however, KB 949810 is a Windows Update and its download and installation is supported as any other Windows Update issue.
In your situation I would try this next: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058
Also search for "Dial-a-Fix."

Thanks for your post, in my case it turned out to be the task scheduler being set to manual and not being started. thanks again.Sunday, July 11, 2010 7:52 AM
