Adding a larger drive to a client machine and backup is unsuccessful RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have whs 2011 running on a Lenovo Thinkserver 140 with a 2 TB drive and two additional 1.5 TB drives. On my client machine, drive C was a 500 GB drive. I restored drive C (346 GB of data) to a larger, 1.5 TB drive using the Client Restore Wizzard. No problem, I put the drive back in the client and it booted up just fine, but now it will not back up to the server. The server has enough available space for the back up, but I was wondering if the server looks at the total size of the drive, not just the data on it? For now, I put the old, smaller drive back in, and it resumed backing up as expected.  I was curious whether the server looked at the new drive as too large for its available space?  Anyone have thoughts on this? I didn't find any error messages, so couldn't determine exactly why it failed on the larger drive.  Also, I have a second drive D that is 500 GB for data as well with 312 GB data on it.

  • You must reconfigure the backup for the client computer using the dashboard. Select add/remove items to backup and you will notice that an off-line disk is selected. Deselect this one (it's your old drive) and select the new one.
