VirTool:Win32/Obfuscator.XY : is this a false-positive? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,
I installed a PC tuneup software from Large Software, then OneCare picked up a threat called VirTool:Win32/Obfuscator.XY coming from the PC tuneup. While researching about this someone suggested it might be a false-positive....  Does anything know anything about this "threat"?  I googled it and found a lot that are very similar (such as VirTool:Win32/Obfuscator.Q) but no exact name match...

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

p.s. I got the PC tuneup software via ZoneAlarm Extreme security suite... Not that I don't love OneCare, but since it's going bye-bye, I'm looking for other options...

  • If you are trying out other security software, you really need to remove OneCare to prevent conflicts. Conflicts can include false positives and missed detections as well as performance issues and system instability.
However, if OneCare detects something and you aren't running any other "real time" security software:

Follow the instructions in this post, http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/onecareanti-virus/thread/6a1361cb-ae28-4d0b-94df-ae2ae890de29 , to report a virus that is not detected by OneCare and to get help in removal or to report a suspected false positive - a threat detected by OneCare in error.
