Problem with Diagnostic Tool RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello! I'm having trouble running the tool, I get lots of hr = 0x80070002 errors. The web-based genuine advantage tool cannot detect anything either. I think this started after I installed SP1, but I am not sure. What could cause this? Thank you both for the replies. I have run the new tool and pasted the output below.

A little clarification on the license - it is an MSDN Academic Alliance license from my university. I am not sure if it is a volume license for the university or tied to my university user account. As far as I know, it is not an upgrade. I performed a fresh installation and do not remember entering any key aside from the one associated with Windows 7 x64 Professional. I do not have a COA sticker - the University MSDN-AA site provided an ISO and the key, which I downloaded and burned to a DVD.

There doesn’t appear to be anything wrong with WGA on this machine – it’s activated fine, and validated as well.

0x80070002 errors are ‘not found’ errors.
run the System File Checker and see what it finds (SFC /SCANNOW) – but you’ll need to post the results in a more appropriate forum for assistance.

    Good Luck!

  • The first problem I see is that you are using an old version of the Diagnostic Report tool.

    Version you are using: 1.9.0019.0

    Current version: 1.9.0027.0

The most up to date version of the Diagnostic Report tool (MGADiag.exe) can always be downloaded at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

    Thank you,

    Darin MS

(at least it’s not the 1.5 version that resurfaced recently, Darin!)

I hope that you have a proper license for that somewhere – The license here is an MAK Volume license for Win 7 Pro.
Volume Licenses are Upgrades – meaning that they require a previous valid qualifying license on that machine.
No qualifying license = no Volume License. The motherboard here is a Retail one – so the qualifying license would have to be a Retail one, or an OEM System Builder one.

That said, everything else looks OK, but please repost with the latest version, as Darin said....
To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
    Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
      - **in your own thread**, please

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine, but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

  • A MSDN Academic Alliance Windows 7 license is only valid if you are actively associated with the university.  Therefore, you would need to contact the university to obtain the product key.  If you are no longer actively associated with the university, then you'll need to reformat your hard drive and install a conventional "Full Retail" edition of Windows 7 which can be purchased from the Microsoft Store.

  • I still attend the university and have the product key. I am just having a problem getting the tool to show that my copy of Windows is genuine. As you can see, there are many 0x80070002 errors in the tool and I cannot get either this tool or the web-based "genuine" tool to work correctly.
