Lenovo x61 tablet -- This copy of windows 7 is not genuine?

Question
-
I recently bought this computer with windows 7 professional 32 bit installed. If in fact I have a counterfeit copy of windows that's fine, I'll pay for a genuine copy. But according to several of the posts I have read that may not be the case. Here is the read out from my diagnostic report:

You only have to look at the date the computer was manufactured, September 26, 2008
<Date>20080926000000.000000+000</Date>
and, knowing that Windows 7 was not released to manufacturers until July 24, 2009, to know that it is impossible for this OEM SLP copy to have been installed at the factory.
Windows Product ID Type: 2
Windows License Type: OEM SLPOEM SLP copies are only factory installed. They cannot be legitimately purchased or otherwise acquired. Obviously, this copy is copied from a newer computer. The SLP technology requires code in the SLIC table in the BIOS on the motherboard in order to activate. A hacker tool was used to fool Windows into thinking that the correct SLIC table is in the BIOS.
Your computer originally shipped with Vista. Check the COA sticker affixed to the computer. This copy of Windows 7 is pirated.

The installed OEM SLP copy of Windows 7 Professional does not belong on that Lenovo computer. The computer was manufactured in the year 2008, well before Windows 7 became available. What you'll need to do is purchase a genuine "Full Version" edition of Windows 7 and perform a "clean install". Genuine Windows 7 software is available from the Microsoft Store.

Your copy of Windows 7 on this computer is non-genuine – the computer is too old to support an OEM_SLP Key for Win 7There is a large question-mark over the Office installation as well - it’s a version which is VOlume-licensed only, so if it came with the machine, then it’s non-valid, and only showing as genujine as a result of the demise of the OGA program. My recommendation would be to either revert to the original OS, or do a clean install with a Full Retail copy of Win 7.

Well I did buy this machine from a computer repair shop, so it makes sense they would have used volume licensing I guess. And I know they upgraded the OS from windows vista basic, which as many of you pointed out, came with the machine. When I right click on my computer the OS seems to think this is a dell? Bad sign.
I have contacted the shop who sold me this thing, and after now after a couple of calls they have gotten back to me with an alternative product key. It didn't work. It looks like I'm going to have to drive the hour and half to the shops location or ship this thing to them and have them figure it out. I was hoping to avoid the down time.
Thanks for all your help. If you have any other suggestions, please let me know.

I know of no good reason a repair shop would think that it makes sense to use a volume license key. They would use an OEM System Builder or Refurbisher key (a retail key maybe) but volume license keys are not distributed by computer stores and repair shops. VLKs are for the internal use of enterprises and organizations and are "not-for-resale".
And I don't know how a repair shop would have "alternate keys" either. Microsoft does not distribute "spare" product keys. If you go to the shop demand to see the software in its package yourself before anything more is done. If it is not an OEM System Builder or Retail copy forget it. It should not be in use already on another computer either.
Go somewhere else the next time you have a repair need.

You make several good points.
In all fairness to the computer repair shop, this computer was the owners old personal machine that he purchased as new, so it is possible that the volume license key was used internally for reasons that I'm not aware of --without the intention of resale. The point being, I think it's probably best to assume that the repair shop was acting in "good faith" until this issue is resolved. Maybe I'm naive, but it just didn't seem like the type of place that intended to sell me something that didn't work.
Thanks for the advice, and I hope I get this resolved soon.

You didn't say it was a used computer. I suspect it was an as-is purchase so just purchase a new OS. Scan the recent threads here for an idea of what to avoid. There are tens of thousands of counterfeit copies from China so stick to the Microsoft Store or Amazon Corp. Avoid eBay, the Amazon Marketplace, and discount websites.

Sorry – that excuse cuts no ice, unless they effectively did nothing.Any decent repair shop will warn a user of a non-genuine installation, and suggest ways around it.They could easily have re-installed the proper OS with the proper Key – it’s something I do as a matter course, when required. In short – the repair shop was not acting in good faith, nor in best-practice. They were hoping to make money out of a counterfeit install.
