Remote access to client PC RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am able to remote in to my WHS from outside my network but cannot remote through to a client PC on the network. When I log into my WHS from within my network I can RDP to that same client, but only by IP address, not by name. Sounds like a DNS issue of some sort. Anyone have any suggestions?

  • can be DNS, can be NetBIOS name resolution in the local network.
That you cannot use the homeserver.com domain to connect locally, may happen, since the ISP can configure not to allow such loopbacks to the local network.
Name resolution, well. Can you ping your home server by name and by IP address?
If by name fails, does it show another IP address it tries to ping?
If yes, could you have set an entry in the hosts file, which is no longer valid?

  • Thanks Olaf, I figured it out ... rebooted server and client.
