Mobile install and using the Promo codes

We’ve seen a number of reports from our beta testers on some confusion around how to add their mobile phone and add it as a device to sync with.

The top reasons why it will fail:

    1)       If you previously changed your country/region in your Account settings on Accounts.live.com from UK to US, you will need to change it back before using the Promo code.

    2)       We are currently opening up Live Mesh for Mobile to the United States and United Kingdom since we are still in the process of testing our performance capabilities.  After working through any major issues, we will extend the Live Mesh Mobile Beta to additional countries.

    3)       If you click the Promo links from your mobile phone it will fail to register your account correctly.  Please try this again from a PC/Mac.

    4)       If you go to www.mesh.com from your mobile phone and click add device and select Mobile it can fail.  Please try this from a PC/Mac.

    5)       If you download the installation cab directly from a website without selecting the option from a PC and without cllicking the Promo for your country it will cause the phone to not be added as a device.

The result is you will see error messages, from unable to login, to unable to synchronize device, to device cannot be added at this time.

You can resolve these issues by making sure you are clicking the correct Promo code, your account country/region is correct, and doing the initial claim of the mobile phone as a device from a PC/Mac

If you are still running into issues and none of the above apply please send an email to LMPrev@microsoft.com or a forum post here with what you have done, and what hasn't worked correctly.

    Thanks!

  •  Hello Jaimie,

Are you located in the UK? The code you are using is reserved for residents of the UK only. If you are in the US the promo code for Mobile is: https://www.mesh.com/Web/Promo.aspx?pcode=Mob_FCFS1

    Thanks,

    Hi there Nadia,
    Yes, I'm in the UK.

Anyway, the link now works but unfortunately when I get there (after sign-in) I see:

    Unknown Error.
    (Code: 83d361e2-78c7, 11/2/2008 3:22 PM)

    And the URL is https://www.mesh.com/Web/Error.aspx&msg=ineligibleForPromo

    Why might  be ineligible?

    Thanks
    Jamie

    Hi Nadia,
All is good, it looks like I'm in now.

Yesterday my location at account.live.com was set to "United States" (cos I used to live there up until March this year). before posting my second post in this thread (about 7 hours ago) I realisd that this might be a problem so I reset it t "United Kingdom" - after that I still got the failure. I've just tried now and it has worked - I guess it takes a wile for that change to propogate (so at least I've lernt something).

Thanks for your time - and sorry for wasting it.

    -Jami

  • No worries :)  we like the easy fix answers makes us feel a little better when we hit the problems that there are no easy answers for.
