Folders Problem. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I already have a folder with name Live Sync in my mesh which is currently synchronizing with my desktop. Now, I have installed the live mesh mobile client on my HTC p3400i. My question is how do I sync the same folder Live Sync (which is on live mesh) with my mobile phone? When I added folder with same name from my mobile device, it created another folder with same name on the mesh.

    Thanks in advance.

  • You don't add a folder on a device to the Mesh in order to share an existing folder - doing so results in a new folder being added to the Mesh. In the Mesh client on the device, you select the existing folder and configure the sync settings for that folder to sync with the device and browse to the location you wish to sync with. Unfortunatley, I can't run the mobile client on my device (unsupported), so I can't tell you the exact steps.

  • Thanks for quick reply Steve, as usual!

Actually, I have managed the thing. I am facing rather different problem. The application is unable to run in background on my HTC p3400i. It automatically closes and signs out as soon as I switch to another application say File Explorer. Also, yesterday, I left the device for sync. After few hours when I returned, the Live Mesh was automatically closed and I was on today screen. Is this normal?

Secondly, the application seems nothing but the pocket IE, embedded in different UI. Am I right?

  • Live Mesh's interface on the Windows Mobile devices will not stay running all the time. The Windows Mobile OS will close inactive apps.

No, it is not just a limited web browser, though it really doesn't have a load of functionality.

I haven't used it in a while, but I vaguely recall that you have the ability to set a schedule for it to sync with your Mesh vs. the default on demand sync.

  • The schedule is defined under Menu->Settings and has the ability to sync either Manually, as local folders are updated, 30 mins, 60 mins, 2 hours or 4 hours.

I guess the 'as local folders are updated' option is the equivalent to the 'When files are added or modified' on the desktop version. Seems like it would be useful if the terminology was the same, if possible.

  • Hi, Glyn. Nice to see you. ;-) And thanks for filling in the blanks - quite helpful since I don't have the mobile client installed any longer.
