Build 7601: This copy of Windows is not genuine RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have looked at other posts on this issue, with no success.

My mate bought a Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade to upgrade from Vista Home Premium about 2 years ago.  A couple of days ago he suddenly got a watermark on the screen 'Build 7601: This copy of Windows is not genuine'.

    I have:

Rung Microsoft, told them the situation, they said go back to Vista. use the Upgrade Advisor to install again - that won't make a difference as it has worked before!!!

Gone to www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate.  When I run this. it says 'Because Windows installed on your PC is genuine...'!!

    Reset the Software Licensing service.

    Phone Activation.

    sfc / scannow.

    None of it works!

I have run MGADIAG, of which the results are below:

This is the windows 7 home premium default key (keyless install key) which can not be activated.

You have to change the product key to the one on your proof of license label.

    click start

    right click computer

    select properties

scroll to the bottom of the page and select change product key.

You may have to activate by phone:

How to activate Windows 7 manually (activate by phone)

    1) Click Start, and in the Search box type:   slui.exe  4

    2) Next press the 'ENTER' key

    3) Select your 'Country' from the list.

    4) Choose the 'Phone Activation' option.

    5) Stay on the phone (do not select/press any options) and wait for a person to help you with activation.

    6) Explain your problem clearly to the support person.
