CRM 2013 open related record in new window? RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a client that recently upgraded from CRM 2011 to CRM 2013 and really enjoy the flat interface, except for one scenario. If I'm on a contact form and want to see data on the parent account, the page is redirected when I click the lookup, except when required fields haven't been filled out.

For a specific scenario, consider this: I create a new contact using the quick create button and form, then want to review the parent account's address before saving the contact.

Is there any way to open the parent account record without redirecting the current page?

  • Try holding Ctrl+click on the account name. The account should appear in a new browser window or tab.

  • Neil, Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to work, at least on IE 11. I tried every combination I can think of using shift, ctrl, alt and left, right and double-clicking, all of which open the record in the same page.

  • Unfortunately, CRM isn't supported in IE11 yet. I tried it with Chrome and it worked fine. Try IE10, Firefox or Chrome -- they are all supported.

  • I could verify it working on chrome and ie 9 .For IE 11 it seems to be a bug or the default settings is set as open new pages in same window.

    Thanks

  • Thanks for the replies. I guess I just assumed that since I didn't get a message indicating incompatibility that IE 11 was supported.

  • Hi, I have got the same problém. I tried to open records with CTRL in Chrome and Firefox and it is openning in the same window :-(. We have installed RU1 and its on-premise IFD deployment.

    Thanks

  • I am using a couple workarounds, none of which are as good as being able to open the related form in a new window:

Click on the related record lookup, then popping that record to a new window. Then, navigate backward in the main window.

If starting from a grid on a dashboard, pop that grid to a new window, and navigate to the related record in the main window.

  • Some suggestions:-

Firstly I think you'll find that the (new window/tab) behaviour in tabbed browsers is configurable in the browser settings.

Secondly, you could use javascript to copy parent account address or even prompt whether to copy it.

Thirdly you could maybe add the composite address field in the account footer so it's not covered by the quick create form???
