USB Drive optimization..."Optimize for quick removal" or Optimize for performance" RRS feed

  • Question

  •

I was poking around the hardware settings on my home - built WHS and noticed that the drive optimization setting of the USB drive was set to: "Optimize for quick removal" instead of "Optimize for performance".

I read the information where it says Optimize for performance allows the comupter to cache the drive data.

I have no plans on removing the drive from the server, ever, and was wondering if it would be safe to change the setting to Optimize for performance?

  • Yes... however you MUST remember to take caution when unplugging the USB drive because doing so, even accidently for a second *could* mean that some data would not be written.
