Upgrade form 70-448 to MCSE BI 2012 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, I have passed the 70-448 in 2009,   (BI development and maintenance SQL 2008)
I would like to go for the MCSA SQL 2012 Server
    Then for the MCSE BI

    Q1: what steps should I take ?
    Q2: I have a book 70-433  (SQL 2008 DB development),
can I use this book in stead of the Training Kit 70-461 (Querying SQL Server 2012)  ?

  • There is no direct upgrade from the MCSA in BI 2008 into the MCSE in 2012. You could choose to first earn the MCITP in 2008 by taking exam 70-452 (warning: retires in July 2013), and then upgrade the MCITP into MCSE 2012 by means of the three exams 457, 458 and 460.

As an alternative, you can take exams 461, 462 and 463 to become a MCSA 2012, and then 466 and 467 to get the MCSE. This is one exam more than the previous alternative, but you are not depending on passing one exam that is soon to be retired.

As to your Q2, yes, the material from 433 is a good base for 461. In fact, 433 goes beyod 461 and covers several topics that are not required by the latter. In turn, 461 requires a very detailed knowledge of the complete and precise syntax of SQL Queries, so you need to know them really well, more so than required for 433. So be sure to read and compare the list of "skills measured" for both exams.

  • Hi,

    One more question please:

Is it possible to get the MCSE BI   by passing  466 - 467  without   going through   the   MSCA   exams ?

Just asking because I already have 4 years experience in MS BI development and  MCTS for BI

    Thank you.

  • Although you may take exams 466 and 467 before going through the MCSA exams, they will not result in you being certified as a MCSE. You will need to take all five exams to receive the MCSE certification.
