90 day OneCare running out, need help! RRS feed

  • Question

  • I downloaded the 90 day windows Live OneCare from my home in the USA and I am now traveling in New Zealand. The free trial is running out and when I tried to subscribe and pay the price goes from $49.95 to $119.95. What is going on , I am only traveling here not living here. Does anyone know how I can work this problem?? I am not paying in New Zealand dollars and will pay with my USA bank credit card . Help !!

  • Since you are connecting in New Zealand, you will be purchasing a subscription in New Zealand at New Zealand rates, assuming that your US credit card information is accepted.

At this point, your alternative is to contact someone back home in the US and have them purchase a retail copy of OneCare for you and provide the retail key from inside the box, which you can then use to activate. You can also have them activate with a LiveID that you create at http://account.live.com and the retail key from the box at http://onecare.live.com/activate

Once they activate at that web site, change your password and then activate with that LiveID from within OneCare and it will be associated with your subscription.

One further alternative, depending on how long you will be traveling is to allow the trial to expire. It will cease getting updates and it will not allow you to do tune-ups or backups, but it will still provide basic protection until you can get it activated.
