Validation Error after Reinstall and Updates RRS feed

  • Question

  • I re-installed windows last night on a new computer after my old motherboard failed. Windows validated correctly then. I then installed about 85 updates and went to bed. The problem started sometime this morning after installing Office 2007 which validated correctly. I tried a solution I can no longer find that required typing %windir%/system32, opening cmd.exe as administrator, typing in something I forgot and then rebooting twice. After rebooting, I can no longer access the task bar. Closing the error logs me out!

    This is my current info:

  • Hi,

Thanks for the follow up! I went into safe mode and was able to get access to my computer. I was having problems with my video drivers causing a reboot right after signing into windows. Changing to standard vga drivers let me into windows. I found a similar problem online which related to a conflict with my creative x-fi soundcard which was installed but, I could not get to work. Apparently there was a IRQ conflict. I removed the card and immediately enabled the onboard audio on my Asus A8V-X motherboard. I was unable to find any drivers for vista but did not relate that to the validation problem.

I just went into the bios and disabled the onboard audio and rebooted and went into windows with no more validation errors. I went into system in the control panel and it says windows is activated!

    Thanks again for your help.

P.S. I found drivers for my onboard audio and now I have it working too.

  • Not knowing what you typed makes it very difficult to address the issue, however your license is a system builder license and therefore locked to the original computer, replacing the motherboard is seen as an installation on a new computer. Once you gain access to windows you will need to activate windows by phone and explain that the motherboard failed and you (assuming you are the system builder) replaced the motherboard.

Please see the link below. Evidently a previous poster had problems with AVG free editions and it just happened to give the same error code seen in your licensing data section.

Sorry, I know that thread is old but I am not having much luck looking up that particular error code.
