Is it possibel to Use Matlab.NET to Create SOA service on HPC cluster? RRS feed

  • Question

  • We just installed a Cray CX1 cluster running HPC 2008 server. I am wondering if anyone here knows if it is possible to use Matlab.net to wrap existing algorithms written in Matlab into a SOA service that can be deployed on our CrayCX1. I just watched the SOA/HPC video by Ming Xu and thought it would be great if Matlab .Net can be used to create such services.  Any comments/answers are welcome.

  • Matlab already works with Windows HPC. Watch this video - http://channel9.msdn.com/shows/The+HPC+Show/SC08-Windows-HPC-Matlab--Parallelization-Part-1of-3/

In fact there is a bunch of videos talking about HPC+Matlab on channel 9 - http://channel9.msdn.com/tags/matlab/

And there is more information on Mathworks' site - http://www.mathworks.com/products/parallel-computing/description5.html (Disclaimer: I'm not responsible for information provided on this website).

But if you do want to implement your own system, I see no reason why you can't do that. Just post any question you got here and we'll be glad to response.

  • Thanks for the pointers. They are indeed excellent materials for showing how to use Matlab distributed computing server and the parallel computing toolbox within Matlab enviroment. However, my original question was different. We have algorithms now built in Matlab and want to deploy them as services on Windows HPC cluster. If possible, i want o use SOA/HPC architecture to develop interactive applications that use these services. I am aware that Matlab has a product called Matlab builder for .Net that can be used to wrap the existing matlab algorithms in .net or COM components . My question was if such .net components built by Matlab .Net builder can be depolyed as services on HPC server.

  • We haven't tried to this before, nor have we seen our customer doing this. But I see no reason why you can't do this. Just build the service, deploy the correct bits to the cluster and you should be ready to go.
