CRM Server Installation Problems RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am installing MS Dynamics 4.0 Server on Windows server 2003 R2 Enterprise x64 Edition SP2.

The machine has SQL Sever 2008 installed.

The machine is part of a domain.

I get to the final step of install (System Requiements) but i get the following errors/warning and can't proceed:

    Internet Information Services (IIS)
Warning:  Error accessing URL http://CRMLIVE: The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found.
HTTP Error 404 - File or directory not found.

    Microsoft SQL Server
Error: Login failed for user domain\Administrator

    Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services
Error:  Setup failed to validate specified Reporting Services Report Server http://CRMLIVE/ReportServer. Error: Client found response content type of '', but expected 'text/xml'.
The request failed with an empty response.
Client found response content type of '', but expected 'text/xml'.
The request failed with an empty response.

The IIS is a warning but looks like it might be an issue if I do not fix it.

The MS SQL Server error I am unable to connect to the MS Sql Server using the domain\Administrator.  I use these credentials to RDP onto both the UAT and LIVE machines and i can connect to the MS Sql Server database using these credentials on UAT

I should also say that this machine was added to the domain only yesterday and it also appears to be a domain controller but not a Global Catalog.

As well as the errors above is it possible to have two domain controllers for a domain?

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give.

  • Hi Geordie_123,

The role of web server (IIS) is correct installed?

Try to login on the SQL server through MSSQL Server Management Studio. Or try to login with the sa user and password of SQL server, if you set an other user than the administrator.

    Kind regards,
    Kris

  • Hi,

I am not sure what you mean when you say : "The role of web server (IIS) is correct installed?"  On the machine IIS is installed if that is what you mean.  Is there are particular setting in IIS i should look at?

I tried logging in through MSSQL Server Mgmt Studio with administrator password and sa password but stilll not working on this machine.  As i explained I can login to SQL Server on UAT using these credntials just not the LIVE server.

  • Hi Geordie_123,

    First the IIS issue...

Make a test website and set a specific port to it & also a directory.

    Then surf to it http://localhost:portnumber.
To see if that works... Normally you must get an HTTP Error 403.4 Forbidden error.
Not forget to set the World Wide Web Publishing service and the IIS Admin Service to running & automatic startup.

Check if the SQL server service is running, SQL server agent is running, indexing service is running, and check also the AD for the required security groups.
The required security groups are the following: PrivUserGroup, SQLAccesGroup and PrivReportingGroup.
Remember the install user must be a domain user.

    Kind regards,

    Kris

  • Hi Kris,

Thanks for you continued effort on this.

I am still getting the following error(s) on final step of installation:

    Internet Information Services (IIS)
Warning:  Error accessing URL http://CRMLIVE: The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found.
HTTP Error 404 - File or directory not found

    Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services
Error:  Setup failed to validate specified Reporting Services Report Server http://CRMLIVE/ReportServer. Error: Client found response content type of '', but expected 'text/xml'.
The request failed with an empty response.
Client found response content type of '', but expected 'text/xml'.
The request failed with an empty response.

I have reinstalled IIS and can see  that it creates the default web site on port 80.  During the CRM installation i specified Default Web Site when asked to 'select web site' and this binds to port 80.  Should I delete the default web site and/or change the port for CRM installation?

I am at a total loss with regards the SSRS error.  I am using SQL Server 2008 and I can see in the Reporting Services Configuration manager that my web service url is http://CRMLive:80/ReportServer so that is what i use when asked to enter report server but still i get this error.

If i browse to the url it asks me for my credntials but then returns HTTP 500 Internal Server error.

I really need help on this as i need this server up and running yesterday!

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Kris,

Try browsing http://CRMLive:80/ReportServer in IE you should get a page. If you get error message than the reporting services in not working. If it is working than enter this url in installation. Make the user installing CRM as local admin on the server. Check all the group created in active diredtory have correct members.

  • Hi Geordie_123,

I propose to choose the option 'Create new Web site' and then MS Dynamics CRM Setup program assigns port 5555 to the web site that it creates.
So after the setup, you must enter http://<server name>:5555 in your browser to check if that works.

    Kind regards,
    Kris

  • Hi Kris,

Creating new web site does fix the IIS error i receive on final page of CRM installation.

I am still left with this error:

    Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services
Error:  Setup failed to validate specified Reporting Services Report Server http://CRMLIVE/ReportServer. Error: Client found response content type of '', but expected 'text/xml'.
The request failed with an empty response.
Client found response content type of '', but expected 'text/xml'.
The request failed with an empty response.

Do you have any idea how to fix this and/or configure reporting services?

thanks again for all of your help

  • Hi Kris,

That setting is already set to 0.

Also,  should there be something in IIS under web site for reportserver at all.  There is nothing in there but the default web site.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Geordie_123,

Normally there is a virtual directory with the name ReportServer are something... But you can view those settings in the Reporting Services Configuration Manager.

I suggest you follow the steps in this article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946788/nl , and let me know if this works.

    Regards,
    Kris

  • Hi Kris,

I have not done the above because the virtual directories never existsed.  I should say I am using SQL server 2008 which i think has some sort of inbuilt IIS server for reporting services.  I checked my UAT server and there are no virtual directories setup on it for reporting services.

I am now getting the following error:

The report server cannot decrypt the symmetric key that is used to access sensitive or encrypted data in a report server database. You must either restore a backup key or delete all encrypted content. (rsReportServerDisabled) Get Online Help

    • Bad Data. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80090005)

I did change the SQL Server Reporting Services service to Local System Account.

    This is very frustrating indeed.

  • Hi Kris,

I managed to get this working by specifiying the virtual directories again in th Reporting Services Configuration Manager.

I think it is probably a combination of things I have tried.

Thanks for you excellent help and i have marked you as the answer and voted helpful.

    Thanks again!
