Windows is user friendly and is used in many industries where as Linus is new but efficient. Which shall i prefer?Thursday, March 8, 2007 9:06 AM

It's very correct that one is highly user friendly while other opens a door for openness and way to peep into the internal architecture....
Both has it's own merit and demerit.
so according to ur use and convenience you can choose one.
for example if u want to build something on the top of the kernal and u need to track the processes or threads its not easy in Windows ,u can that better in Linux . But for newer facilities and wide compatibility Windows is more user friendly....
so choice is urs.

as vengat says Windows is user friendly only becoz of which windows is popular...but linux isnt that user friendly, though they they provide much GUI than their previous versions...so if u r good at basic unix operations and commands u may prefer to use linux...Thursday, March 8, 2007 4:17 PM

Linux has high security, whereas Windows has low security. Moreover, Linux is more robust than Windows. Linux also has a large set of development tools, available at the time of installation.
On Linux, if someone develops something and the distributor approves it, that package can be associated with the next version of OS. The developer also gets the credit for this. This is not the case for Windows.

For the home use purpose Windows is the best.. but for a programmer Linux is the ultimate choice because of the freedom you get in Linux... I had tried Linux once, The graphical experience was wonderful but i was not able to install the Sound drivers in it.. Well I am a Novice in it thatz the only reason.. I will be studying Linux next year so it wont be a problem then..
Moreover Linux is very safe and stable for accessing Internet.. U will find 1 or even 0 virus compared to 10 viruses build for windows..
Best of all Windows is a paid OS for which u have to pay huge amount, Around 8000 for XP and 15000 for Vista.. Where as linux is a free OS and you can even change it according to your need..
Still if u are confused I recommend try out both.. You can install Linux and Windows on one machine together.. the best u can get the Linux CD version which runs on CD.. so you dont need to even install it.. but have a check on ur CD drive for it, you will use the lense head a lot for running a OS from CD..
If you get a hang of Linux.. Go for it as its free and free updates on it..
