  • Thanks...I tried system restore...unfortunately, this did not fix the problem.  While I am no longer receiving a black screen, I still am recieving the error message in the lower right corner of my screen:

    Windows 7

    Build 7601

This copy of Windows is not genuine

    Any other thoughts or suggestions??

  • I have the same problem.  Digital download copy of Windows 7 purchased from Microsoft at release, install on a home built 3g dualcore sys.

Last night It popped up saying it was no longer valid...

I have tried reentering the product #, and even did the phone activation, and getting a message that the key is being blocked...

Tried chat support and get a message telling me my key is not valid for this country......

What the heck is going on here....???

I did run Malwarebytes and it did find 6 bad files that it removed.  But that has not helped.

  • Bluhawk,

You are poaching another user's thread.  Please observe announcement 2 at the top of this forum page.

Most Non-Genuine issues look the same regardless of the true underlying cause. So to help minimize the confusion caused by troubleshooting multiple different issues, we ask that all users create their own threads for thier own specific issues.

In other words, please do not post "Me Too" messages in other people's threads.

Even if you have the same problem, it is not the problem being discussed in this thread. This thread is about Norusa's issue.  Please start your own new thread and include your MGADiag Tool report as requested in announcement 1.

  • I tried the syestem restore but that didn't work...any other ideas on what is going on that is causing this and what I can do to fix this??

  • Norusa, you need to contact the Microsoft Store where you purchased Windows.  If you read some of the other posts, replies are starting to show up that say that is the resolution.

  • I purchased it online via the Microsoft Store, not at a physical store.  Hopefully I can find a number or a resolution...this is quite frustrating.
    Sunday, September 4, 2011 2:08 AM
  • Yes, I understand that you purchased online.  You need to call them.  That is how others are resolving this.  It sounds like a data file there got misprocessed and good keys were blocked in error.  I understand they are issuing replacement keys or something like that.

  • Thank you very much Cbarnhorst for all your help.  I contact MS at  866-530-6364  and they were able to issue me a replacement key.

  • I just wanted to update this thread.

There appears to have been an issue with the Product key Activation/Validation servers that only effected a subset of Digitally Distributed Product keys.

This issue has been corrected and user that were affected by this should no longer be seeing a Non-Genuine/Key Blocked error.

If you do still see this error please try the following:

    1) Reboot and then re-try Activating and/or Validating.

    2) If you still see the issue, please contact Microsoft Assisted Support (at one of the below URLs)
