default font size too big RRS feed

  • Question

  • My default Xfont size "normal" has become very large when I re-installed windows XP.
[I would think about 15 pt, 10 point would be better].
    It was OK before re-installing]
This size means that tool bars occupy an unacceptable amount of screen. I have reduced everything I can reduce in the appearance tab, but some things are stuck on 15 pt and I can only increase the size , not reduce it.
I tried changing the DPI to a higher value, . The font size reduced but the screen was  "foggY".
What can I do to 1. reduce depth of tool bars and task bar
    2. reduce "normal" default font size below 15 pt?
