Its Only Me,
Thank you for visiting the Genuine Advantage forum. Your issue is related to Windows Product Activation. In an attempt to assist I would like to provide some information which may or may not help. Curious who is the actual manufacturer of the computer which you recently purchased? The computer appears to have been a home built computer or by a local shop. I do not see any reflection of a major manufacturer based on the MGA Diagnostic results.
From the Desktop:
a) If you have access to the Start button: Click the Start button, and type in "slui.exe 4" in the search field and then press the "Enter" key. This will bring up the Activate by Phone dialog window. Follow the steps provided by the window. The phone activation process should only take about 6 minutes.
b) If you do not have access to the Start button: Reboot and login to Vista, a dialog window will come up. In that window, click the option "Access computer with reduced functionality". Once you do that, Internet Explorer or Firefox browser will open. In the address bar type "c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe" press enter, a new window will come up, type: slui 4 and hit enter and follow steps to Activate over the Phone. Also you may reference the following site for various Telephone Activation Centers:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326851
Next I noticed you have a retail version of Vista. Should you need to call for telephone activation again let them know Vista is retail. Thank you for visiting the Genuine Advantage forum. Please let us know if this resolved your issue.

Motherboardlove,
Thank you for attempting and provide assistance to the customer. We do our best to support ALL customers regardless. Please keep in mind there are different release versions of operating systems either customers may purchase. Next major manufacturers install OEM SLP operating systems. In turn they (manufacturers) are responsible for providing technical support to the customer as per the EULA. Also Activation does not fall under the WGA Support scope but we try to provide basic assistance in order to help our customers. Next we would redirect accordingly where they would receive support. Hopefully this will inform you with more information.
Thank you,
Stephen Holm, MS

The computer is a Mesh ,who have been less than helpfull in attempts to resolve this problem, continually putting the blame on me for not typing in the correct key etc,and telling me as its a software problem its nothing to do with them and i should contact Microsoft? The 30 days have now expired they claim the key is genuine that they refute the information given to me by the Microsoft agent i spoke to when trying to enter the 9 ID blocks of no's that could not be verified and suggested i get back to the manufacturers and ask for a new product key and for them to contact Microsoft about the error this they refused to do sticking to the line it was a genuine product key and not there problem.
I have tried the recovery disc today but nothing proceeds beyond the first steps asking for the product key wich of course is not accepted, the initial screen display shows this is not a genuine product in the bottom right corner and i get a window showing i might be a victim of counterfeight ,coming up,yet before this the validation showed it to be genuine despite subsequent showings ,as can be imagined with the appaling attitude of the suppliers im at a loss as to the next step?Tuesday, October 21, 2008 11:16 AM -
Typing in slui.exe4 only changes the search symbol to a X ,no result.Tuesday, October 21, 2008 3:14 PM
