  • Question

  • Alright so I've been at this for months and through multiple installs.  Basically some months ago my Windows 7 Pro upgrade edition (bought from ultimatesteal.com/Digital River) stopped updating properly (error 0x80003FA and sometimes 0x8E5E03FA for those interested).  After a reinstall it worked properly for a couple of weeks before failing again.  I reinstalled again back around October 20 and this time it was only a few days later and it was failing.  I saved an MGADiag from before I installed any updates expecting the worst.  Following that is my most recent MGADiag.  At least I know it's not the stupid DVD causing any corruption!  FYI, my system runs for weeks at a time w/o reboot sometimes and I've run memtest86 on it so I think it's reasonable to say it's probably not the memory either.  If anyone has any ideas I would be much obliged.

Thanks for your time and effort!

    ~Sean

  • Try the following steps.

    SFC/system restore

type cmd in the search box of the start menu, right click on the icon that appears and type sfc /scannow without the qoutes and press enter, allow SFC to run, reboot when directed. If you get any error messages write them down exactly as they appear. After rebooting go to www.microsoft.com/genuine and attempt to validate.

If that does not work then type system restore in the search box, click on the resulting program and follow the wizards prompts to restore to a previous point prior to the non-genuine status.

If that does not work then start a no cost wga tech support incident at the following link http://support.microsoft.com/gp/contactwga

  • PS - Lest you suspect malware messing with my files (I do not use antivirus software on a day-to-day basis), I went and downloaded and installed GData's virus scanner trial (very highly rated for the on-demand scan at av-comparatives).  Even after a full scan nothing remotely suspicious was found, even inside my ISO's!
