I have recent did an XP Install/Repair after having problems with a 3rd party Application.
This Install/Repair was done early on the 17/5. Once the process was completed I have to install all of the Microsoft Updates, which took most of the 17th.
In the evening I wished to view the contents of 'My Document' folder. Once the folder had opened I selected a folder to open and Right Click on the file, to view its Properties.
This process prompted Windows Installer to open and try to initalise the installation of the 3rd party product, eventually a display appeared informing me that it could not find a feature and requested that I insert a disc of browsed for the feature.
Canceling the request caused a ROLLBACK. Selecting to continue then proceeded to inform me that the 3rd party routine gave an error of 1706
As neither the feature was present I do not know why Window Installer indicated that the routine should give this report.
This morning I found that I did not have to go down the path of 'My Document', it happens when selecting any icon on My Desktop.
Once Window Installer screen is closed, my PC produce the drop down Menu for the icon selected.
I would appreciate any recommendation of how to overcome this situation
