Please help, no time to take data off Vail! RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello People!
I have been deep in a project since last November, I didn't have time to baby-sit my Vail server. You can understand my shock today when I took a look to check status, that I was informed that the beta is ending tomorrow, that server will stop to function.

Sh*t, sh*t, sh*t! Like a lot of you guys I have lots of Live data on the machine, its BS that MS expects us to test with non-production data. We can only find issues when using the machine full-time. Now I am screwed, I don't have time to buy disks to offload my data anymore, and the vail-disk cannot be read offline. Does anyone have a workaround for me, at least to let me read my data after Vail dies? Please help, very urgent!

Put the date a month back in your computer BIOS. The Beta wil work normaly again.

  • I tried this as well and verified it works.  In fact I just got the "your server will expire in 7 days" popup :)

  • Thanks people, you just saved my bacon! This gives me some time to get me going. Moving my data immediately. I am done with beta-testing WHS, will not touch the coming preview with a stick a mile long. Forget it MS, you've just lost a customer here.

  • Be careful if you use remote desktop or the remote desktop gateway features of Vail.  If you set the date of the server too far back the remote desktop features won't work anymore.
