Laptop crashed and can't reinstall Office Standard on new one RRS feed

  • Question

  • I bought & installed Office Standard 2007, Military Appreciation Edition, 2 weeks ago. The hard drive on my 2-week old laptop crashed this week, and I couldn't get to any programs to uninstall them. Best Buy replaced the laptop with a new one. I can't reinstall Office Standard 2007 on it.  The license terms say that one copy may be installed on 3 devices, so I should be able to install it.  Help please?   I'm using Windows 7.

I tried using the Microsoft on-line help section, but it wouldn't accept my product key.

    Thanks.

The report is telling us that currently you have a Trial installation of Office Home and Student 2007 installed on your computer.

Because the installed Office H&S 2007 is a different product than your Office Standard, the Product Key that came with your Office Standard will not activate or convert the installed Trial of Office H&S 2007 to a perpetually licensed product.

The best thing to do would be to uninstall the Trial installation of Office H&S 2007, restart twice, then install your Office Standard using the genuine Microsoft installation discs that came with your retail package of Office Standard  2007 M.A.E.  After installation, activate online normally, restart, then visit www.microsoft.com/genuine and click the Validate Office button and it should validate normally as well.

Post back to let us know how you do! :-)

  • Thanks, Dan. Everything worked just fine until I got to the online validation, which didn't work. It won't tell me why it won't validate. Help again, please? Thanks so much.
