Microsoft Office Small Business Edition 2003: Product Not Activated[0x80180101] RRS feed

  •  Hello,

    This problem is becoming quite frustrating.

    I had MS Office Standard 2003 installed, and upgraded to MS Office 2007. All of my apps are now MS Office 2007.

    When I try to active I get the following error:

  • Microsoft Office Small Business Edition 2003: Product Not Activated[0x80180101]
  • I think I know the root cause of this, but not how to solve it.

    The spell check function in Office 2007 got corrupted. It wouldn't detect spelling errors. I lived with that problem for months and tried everything to fix it. I finally found a solution online: to do a custom install of Office 2003 and install ONLY the spelling and dictionary functions. I did this and indeed it fixed the problem.

    So I now have Office 2007 but it is using Office 2003's dictonary. That is the ONLY item I have installed.

    How do I fix this now? I obviously do not have any 2003 APPLICATION to authenticate.

    My 2003, before the upgrade, was OEM and was authenticated.

    I appreciate your help.

In order to receive the best support, we request all users to initially run the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool.  This will try and identify the individual issue you may be experiencing.  Please provide a brief synopsis describing your customer scenario, including any dialogue, error messages, or codes. Error codes can be found in the lower left hand corner of most Genuine Advantage Web pages when an error is encountered.

    By clicking the link below, you will download the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool (MGADT).  Then click the Run button. Then click the Run button again. Then click the Continue button to perform the diagnostic. The Windows tab should show, click the Copy button to paste your report to the clipboard.  Then paste the report into a New Post on this Forum by adding a post in it and pressing Ctrl V (to paste the text). Clicking the OK button will clear the Diagnostic window. Here is the download link:

    Please tell us about the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) for your copy of Microsoft Office.

    1. What edition/version of Office do you have? To find your edition/version click Start, Word Options, Resources, About,there you should find the title of your edition.

    Your issue is related to Windows Product Activation.  In an attempt to assist I would like to provide some information which may or may not help.

    From the Desktop:

    1.

    Click Start,  All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and then Activate Windows.

    Or, click the Windows Activation icon in the taskbar notification area next to the clock.

    2.

    Click Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to activate Windows now.

    3.

    Click Read the Windows Product Activation Privacy Statement, click Back, and then click Next.

    4.

    Follow the steps in the “Activate Windows by phone” dialog box, and then click Next.

    Note The number appears now and differs based on the location that you select.

    5.

    When activation is completed and you receive the following message:

    You have successfully activated your copy of Windows

    Then click OK.
