Problems entering product key for Microsoft Windows Vista

Question
-
I purchased an HP laptop in July, and am now starting to use the Microsoft office programs. When entering the product key listed on the bottom of my laptop, I keep getting "The key is incorrect, Verify the correct key and retype it." I've followed the "diagnostic steps" listed in a previous thread, and have copied the information, just need to know what to do now.
Thanks!Tuesday, April 14, 2009 1:27 AM

Hello Lizabeth628,
The Product Key (PK) on the Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) on the bottom of your HP laptop is for Windows ONLY and will not work to activate Office.
The installation of Office that came preinstalled on your HP laptop is a Trial version of Office. If you are trying to activate the trial to start the trial usage period (60-days), then you should look in the materials that came with the computer for the Product Key that will activate the trial. If you cannot find the PK for the Trial, please visit this Microsoft website, where you can request a new trial PK: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/HA101759011033.aspx
If you have already started using Office and the trial period has expired, Office is now in reduced functionality mode and will stay that way until you purchase a pereptual license and PK. Please see this Microsoft website for more info: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/HA101759641033.aspx
If the installed trial of Office is not the version that you want to use, you can uninstall the Office that is installed and install a copy of Office purchased at a trusted local or online store. Uninstalling Office normally will not delete or in any way change any documents that you have created, but it's always best to save a backup copy.
