XP Install OEMBIOS License error RRS feed

  • Question

I have a Dell 450 white tower, I already know
    its a very old computer.

I am trying to load a licensed copy of Win XP pro
and I keep getting an windows error that wants a
    OEMBIOS file.

I have tried using a license copy of Dell XP windows.
And when the install askes for OEMBIOS I but that CD
into the cD rom and it begins to install, then the install
asks for a Rio8.sys file and I have to put the Lic copy
of XP back into the cd rom and the install appears
to be install OK.The lic copy asks for MS lic number
and that is entered in with no problem and install
    keeps going.

However when the system reboots and starts to go
into the os - I can not get into XP because of a
license problem which is displayed on the screen.

    Can anyone Help.

  • A Dell OEM Windows XP Recovery Disc can only be used on a Dell computer that originally came from Dell with Windows XP preinstalled.  If your Dell 450 did not original come with Windows XP preinstalled by Dell, you cannot use a Dell Windows XP Recovery disc since the disc performs a compliance check for a specific Dell BIOS.

You would need to use a generic Windows XP OEM disc or a retail Windows XP disc with the appropriate proctuct key.
