Unable to access my "E" DRIVE RRS feed

  • Question

  • With Sync Toy Action:Echo when I press on Preview a frame pops down saying:

"Unable to access "E" drive:Is the network connected or are all movable devices plugged in???"

How can I resolve this problem,?? up to now since a few days that I am trying to master this program it was working properly, although I was not able to finalize my previews as an exception notice was crashing the scanning.

Can someone please guide me to resolve this problem.??

    Thanks a lot.

PS : My intension is to back up my docs folder from Drive C of my PC to a DVD/RW on my CD/DVD Drive "E".

Is this feasible ??? I tried it with a Flash Memory Stick and it worked.

  • Hi,

In future please post SyncToy related questions to the SyncToy Forum

So you have a DVD drive on drive e:?  I am actually surprised that you had this working before as I have never tested this.  If it worked before, did it actually end up writing the information to the DVD drive?

  • Hi!!!

Acknowledge to post on Sync Toy Forum..

No I never managed to burn onto my DVD drive.

Only could "Echo" my "favorites " list onto my Flash Memory stick.

I understand now that with Sync Toy is possible to apply "echo" or "synchro" action only within a Local Home or Business Network within HDDs and not onto DVD drive.

Will act accordingly from now on but please tell me.

    1. How to delete some "pair folder" titles created and existing on the left hand side "All pair"column.

    2. How to repair following defect:

With Sync Toy Action:Echo when I press on Preview a frame pops down saying:

"Unable to access "E" drive:Is the network connected or are all movable devices plugged in???"

How can I resolve this problem

    Thanks a lot,

  • To your questions.

    1.  I am not sure I completely understand what you are looking to do.  Are you asking how to delete only some of the folder pairs?  If so, when you click on any of them, you can choose "Delete Folder Pair"  at the bottom of the screen.

    2. Can you simply delete the folder pair, and re-create it pointing at the proper drive?

    Reply to your Q1:
When I select the foldair Pair to be deleted on the left hand side
and hit on the "Delete Foldair Pair" and "I accept to delete" options,
another Icon pops down with SyncToy label on top telling that an"Unhandled
Exception error" occured during preview asking me to hit either on the
"Continue" or "Exit" options. When I hit on the "Continue" nothing happens.
when I hit on the "Exit", the application shuts down immediately. When I
try to reoppen the previously created "Folder Pair" continues to exist.

    Reply to your Q2:
I cannot simly delete and recreate same "Folder Pair" because the previously
created continues to exist. But of course I can recreate a new "Pair folder"
pointing at the same HDD's as before. In this case HDD's "C" and "D" of the same
PC , but when I hit on the "Preview" option the analysis is interrupted again
by an "Unhandled Exception error". And of course I cannot delete it.
The directory address ends with "Thumbs.db"

It becomes very frustrating indeed. Unless I am doing something wrong!!!
I hope that I have explained in clear terms this time, so that you can
    understand it.

    Any assistance will be appreciated.

    Thanks a lot,
    Andre

  • Hi!! Liam,

"Unhandled exception error" still keeps coming on whenever I hit on the "Preview' ANALYSIS.

I am working on a WXP OS and Sync Toy is practically useless.

Whereas on my Vista OS works allright.

It used to work on XP also in the beginning, but suddenly crashed.

I tried to make a clean Install, but still the same, it propably recognizes old registries.

I have created a few folder pairs, from my C to D HDD and to my USB/Flash Memory stick but still the same.

    Please try to assist.

    Thanks a lot.

    Regards,

    Andre

  • I am not sure what the error is you have been having, but I wonder what would happen if you uninstalled, and ensured that your Application Data (pair information) was cleared out and then reinstalled?

The folder pair info on XP is here:

    C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\SyncToy\2.0

I would actually back these files up somewhere else rather than deleting them, just in case.

  • Hi!!! Liam..
Thanks to your recommendations I have managed to perform
a Clean Install of SyncToy 1.4., without the previously
    created Folder Pairs.
I even succeeded to finalize a Preview Analysis and Run
2 Pair Folders created i.e. My favorites and OE with all my
    e-mail files.
But I failed to finalize a Preview and to Run "My Desktop"
icons and some .jpg picture files from my HDD C to D or
USB Flash memory stick... All on account of a "system.overflow
exception" error with an address directory path ending with
    "Thumbs.db."
The system asked me to send an error report to Microsoft
thru the Internet, but I did not because it is time consuming.
If you thing I should go ahead an do it please let me know.
Also please advise me if such kind of failures occur with other
users, as I have seen similar postings on SyncToy Forums.

Which remain still without replies from the Forum members.
    Thanks a lot.
    Regards,
    Andre

  • I am really sorry, I should have asked which version you are using.  Have you tried SyncToy 2.0?  I wonder if that will solve your problems?
