IFD - Publishing Dynamics CRM with Different Internal and External Domains RRS feed

  • Question

  • hi,

i have problem with Publishing Dynamics CRM 2016 IFD with WAP , any help is appreciated in this regard.

below is a overview of my network :

    1 x Dynamics CRM 2016 , 1 x AD 2012 R2 , 1 x ADFS 3.0 (2012 R2) and a WS 2012 R2 with WAP role installed and configured each on a separate VM.

when my internal and external URL/Domain are the same, i can configure and Publish Dynamics CRM without problem but when i have different domain for internal(domain.local) and external (domain.com) access i can't configure WAP to translate external address to internal address and users cant connect to Dynamics CRM using External Address.

also i cant get a wild card certificate for Both Domains (Internal & External) so i need to have 2 separate certificate for Internal and External Access of WAP but it seems with different certificate i have problem proxy connection to CRM.

i don't know how to configure WAP publishing with different domains also i cant find any guide or proper document for that ,i would be grateful if you can provide any information or documentation in this matter.

    thanks!

  • Hi,

There could be a couple of reasons why you're not getting any responses, one is that no one knows how to do it.

I've been fiddling a bit with WAP the past couple of months and as you say it only works with the same domain for external and internal address. Can you explain why you want different domains for your CRM?

  • :) thanks for your replay ,

my internal domain is x.local and external domain is x.com so i need CRM to work with both of them (internal/External).

also i have another case that i want to host multiple Organization with different domains on a server e.g. x.com , y.com , z.com)

  • Hi,

To the best of my knowledge you won't be able to do that since you set up your CRM-server to use one domain. You're also coupling that CRM server to one ADFS server which is running on one certificate which again is working against one domain.

I've actually had issues where I thought that a *.contoso.com certificate would be able to handle any contoso.com addresses but it went south when I had a.b.contoso.com as an address I needed to be secured with that certificate. I don't know if it's possible to have a "double wildcard" certificate (*.*.contoso.com) or why the *.contoso.com isn't working.

What you COULD do is creating a trust between your contoso.com adfs to the a.com adfs and then create users in the CRM with a.com addresses while they still use a CRM2.contoso.com CRM-URL.

Again, this is as far as I've understood things so you might be able to navigate around this somehow, if you do please let us know :)
