  • As luck would have it, I just bumped into this article today over at WMExperts and low and behold the most recent post was on Blackjack II ringtone.

So zturn, I immediately thought of your question ... so here it is:

The way you do it is annoying and not intuitive at all.

Save your mp3 wherever you like.

The BlackJack II has two file browsers - the default one from Windows Mobile and another one called “My Stuff.”

Use “My Stuff” and navigate to your mp3.

When it's highlighted, one of your menu options is to set it as a ringtone.

It will prompt you to move the file to your /My Documents/My Sounds folder -- but it really means “copy,” FYI.

    Done!

    Now for the registry edit.

By default, the BlackJack II doesn't allow for MP3 ringtones over 300kb. That's awfully small - so the fix is, you guessed it, changing that setting in the registry.

Go into HKEY_Current User → ControlPanel → Sounds
    Delete the key of FileSizeLimit

  • You need a registry editor like the one that is included with RESCO Explorer (http://www.resco.net/smartphone/explorer/default.asp)

There are free ones out there too but I like RESCO File Explorer (it is a must have application) and I like the registry editor that comes with it.

PHM has a great one too that is free. (http://www.phm.lu/products/Smartphone/RegEdit/)

This was the first one I ever used and I was quite happy with it

  • I've not used the Blackjack II but on my Motorola Q9m, I can copy and entire WMA file over to My Documents/My Ringtones and it will play.  On my Blackjack I, I can't do that ....

So I guess the best thing to do is pick your favorites and try to reduce their size .... not the solution you wanted but it's the best I can offer.  BTW, you are not the first to complain on that one.

  • ok so i was able to fix this problem all u have to do is edit the value of it not delete it becuz not all fone react the same  way to it some accept it and others don't and if u edit it to say 10240000(10mb) witch is more than enuf space for a ringtone and if u did delete it and it didn't work for u then here is how u can fix it.

go back to where you deleted it HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> ControlPanel -> Sounds. Right click on the right-hand window pane, choose NEW and DWORD Value.  In Value Name type FileSizeLimit, in Value Data type in something like 10240000 which will give you 10MB of space.

so i hope this can help other and thanks to the people that helped me here and on the at&t fourms

  • Increase Max Ringtone Size from 300KB to 25MB

    Download

Now you can use any of MP3 you own as a ring tone on your Blackjack 2! This hack increases the maximum ringtone size from the default 300KB to 25MB using an easy-to-use CAB file.

    1. Application unlock your phone (run the MoDaCo GPS Hack or SDA Application Unlocker)
    2. Copy and Install the CAB file to your Windows Mobile 6 Smartphone.
    3. Copy the MP3’s you would like to use as ringtones to: /My Documents/My Sounds/ (or /Application Data/Sounds/ , either folder will work)
    4. Users with a microSD Memory card can store ringtone MP3s in /Storage Card/ or /Storage Card/My Documents/
    5. Go to Settings > Sounds > Ring Tone and select the MP3 file you would like to use as your ringtone

To use MP3’s for “Other Sounds” such as Reminders, New e-mail, New text messages, etc. install the CAB file as instructed above and copy the MP3 files to: /Application Data/Sounds/

Using MP3s longer than a couple second for anything but a ringtone can get annoying quickly because the MP3 will play through its entirety.
