The files in the Target RRS feed

  • Question

  • After we compile and link the files in the src. We get some files in the Target. In the file of Target ,we can get some executive programs. And also we get some lib files, which is used by the codes of the executive programs. But what's the use of the SDRMiniport.sys? I guess it's the device driver. Then should we install the  SDRMiniport.sys to test the executive programs in the file of Target ?

  • Hi buptboy,

From Chapter 10 in Sora Manual v1.7 (http://research.microsoft.com/pubs/160799/SoraManual-v17.pdf), you will see below description of SDRMiniport driver:

Since version 1.1, Sora SDK package includes the SoftWiFi sample SDR driver. SoftWiFi
implements the IEEE 802.11a/b/g standards. The driver follows the Windows NDIS 5 framework
and exposes a virtual Ethernet interface to the operating system.

Functionally SDRMiniport driver == HWTest + Umxsdrbrick, it is completely written in device driver and has better real-time performance. The disadvantages are common for kernel mode, such as programming difficulty and debugging overhead. We recommend new users start investigation from latter combination.

Please note that SDRMiniport driver and HWTest driver cannot simultaneously enabled in the same PC.
