Expiration of Windows Live One Care subs January 2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is Registry Mechanic a good replacement?  I have not received any info on a replacement and I was told Live One Care would cease to operate.

  • See the top of this forum for information about Microsoft Security Essentials, a free anti-malware that replaces the core protection portion of OneCare.

The best replacement is Windows 7, since that already contains backup, firewall, simpler printer and file sharing and automates all the other functions that were included in OneCare Tune-up.  If your PC is too old to updgrade to Windows 7, then you'll need to look for other tools to perform these added functions or simply learn how to do them manually in Windows itself, since they're all really there already.

There are other full suites available with these tools, but they are really basically archaic since the new OS already includes and automates them.
