Genuine Validation problem XP Professional

Question
-
This is my report from the MS Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool. This XP Professional copy came preloaded on a Lenovo T61, Type 7663-B15, refurbished and sold by IBM Credit, which I purchased 12/27/11. I have Microsoft Security Essentials, received continuous updates from MS, and did not start receiving the notice thru Security Essentials that my Windows copy didn't pass validation until a few days ago. I ran a full scan yesterday with up to date definitions and no viruses were detected. What could have changed?

If you're using FireFox, that about the normal state of affairs.
IE *should* work, but with the license store error you have it would fail anyhow.
I'm not that familiar with XP foibles with this error - but try the fix here...

I would suggest trying the Product Key Update Tool - it may be able to correct the problem with the licensing store...
Use the Product Key Update Tool - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/help/genuine/product-key to 'change' the Key to the one from your license, then reboot and post a new MGADiag report so we can confirm that everything went OK

Thanks for the suggestion but when I inputed my product key the Update tool gave me an error message that the product key was already in use and prompting me to input a different number. My product label and key are genuine and the letters/numbers match the one on the MGADiag report (of course the first ten characters are obscured on the report but the rest are identical). I'm having the same problem I've seen others write about: I go the validation website, and the screen indicates it is starting to work, asking us to wait, and then goes to a blank screen. It doesn't indicate the validation has failed, it just doesn't do anything. This appears to me to be an internal Microsoft problem.Saturday, April 20, 2013 6:13 PM

I am not using the Firefox browser, I use Internet Explorer. The last suggestion did no good for me. MS Security Essentials found no virus so that can be blamed. Results from the Genuine Microsoft Software - Diagnostic Site indicate everything passed. When I go to http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate/ValidationResult.aspx?displaylang=en&cCode=USA&PageName=validate
I get a blank white screen and the website does not complete the process. What is a license store error? I've used this computer for over 15 months with the copy of XP it came loaded with without a problem until recently. Why can't Microsoft fix this?

The License store correlates the Windows Licenses with the certificates and other variables - if it's damaged, then WGA will complain.
Let's see if there's an easy fix...
Click on Start > Run
in the box, type
SFC /SCANNOW
and click OK
You'll almost certainly need to have your XP CD handy.
once complete, reboot and post a new MGADiag report.
