Counterfeit Office? Only sometimes RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been using an upgrade to Office 2007 for two months without problems.  Three days ago I downloaded a fax template.  Today I attempted to download another fax template and was advised that Microsoft Office System is counterfeit.  I had downloaded Office Accounting for a free trial or free use, I don't recall exactly what, from the Microsoft Office website.  Thinking that this might have caused the problem, I uninstalled it,  I still receive the counterfeit message.  What's weird is I can go to the Microsoft Office site and download all templates directly from there without a problem and open them in Word.  When I attempt to download templates through Word on my computer, it says I'm using a counterfeit program.  I can work around this problem but want to know what is causing counterfeit message. Diagnostic below.

  • Hello Tiluride,

Curious the version  Microsoft Office System 2007 you have installed is it a trial version? If so please uninstall it and then Office SMall Business 2007 will work fine.

    Thank you,

  • Hello, Stephen,

I need to clarify.  I upgraded from Small Business Office 2002 to SBO 2007.  That has been validated.  However, there is a second component "2007 Microsoft Office System" in which no valid Office key is detected.  When I go to Microsoft Office Online, a dialougue box informs me that my version of Office is not genuine and it will not download anything but will redirect me to Microsoft to obtain genuine Office software.  But my SBO 2007 is validated each time I go to Microsoft Office Online.  Something, somewhere is haywire.

  • Hello Stephen,

The problem was a corrupted product key from the original installation of Office 2002.  Uninstalled. Reinstalled. Everything OK.
