Windows says it's not official after changing hard drive, and nothing seems to fix it!

Question
-
I have just asked a question on Microsoft Answers, which went as such:-
I had to replace my hard drive on my dell inspiron 1545 and tried to restore windows from a backup image on my external hard drive. It now says it is not an official version of windows and cannot update or anything. Day by day, something else doesn't work! I have tryed all the microsoft auto fix things and tried all the similar answers given here, but nothing is working. I only got the computer just over a year ago, and already windows is not working. I need a reliable operating system for work, and thought I was doing the right thing backing absolutely everything up, but even the backup image doesn't work. whats the point in me paying so much money.
To which these are the resulting answers and replies:-
"What program did you use to make your backup image?
For not genuine notices:In order to receive the best support, we request all users initially download and run the Genuine Diagnostics tool (MGADiag.exe) at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012. Click "Continue", click the "Copy" button then “Paste” the report into a reply message in this thread."
I then put
"I used the windows backup and restore in system settings, and the back up image was put on an external hard drive. There was no error messages during the prosses, or anything that would lead me to believe that anything had gone wrong.

The large number of file mismatches is causing your not genuine problem. Unfortunately I am not competent in this area so I would be of little help. This issue has been seen occasionally with disk imaging.I would really appreciate if somebody can help me.Wednesday, October 19, 2011 4:06 PM

I tried something I found on a thread that seems to have fixed my problem. I found it on this thread: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproperf/thread/3b716d4c-fb5f-411b-9aee-38af1c529336
and I used Humprey's solution, which was to update the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver. It is a simple download fromhttp://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02219204&cc=nl&lc=en&dlc=en&product.
I saw from other writers that it worked for people who didn't have HPs and for people whose hard drives were less than 700GB.
This fixed everything for me, the message about Windows not being genuine and the problem of not being able to update. The only thing it didn't fix was my Toshiba BIOS recognition by the "Health Monitor", but I found another thread for that.
I did not have to re-install Windows or re-enter the product key. Just downloaded the updated driver for Intel. I am not a technician, so I don't know why this worked but it did.

As I said in the other thread, there was no mention of the machines in the TechNet thread having any problem with WGA – they were having problems with Windows Updates.

True. That's the amazing thing. It fixed my WGA problem. Providential that I stumbled upon it.Thursday, October 20, 2011 4:17 AM
