issues with sharepoint & windows live writer

  using word 2010, i receive the following error: Word cannot register your account. The provider where you are trying to publish is unavailable. Contact your provider for assistance. i am attempting to reach a blog that's on a corporate extranet (requires you first logon with domainname\username & password).
  
  i've also tried live writer, and that too errors out:
