My Home Server Config and Installation RRS feed

  • Question

  • Here is my Home Server witch I have built from leftovers and cheap components:

    • X-Gear Nero kabinett SORT
    • EPoX EP-8KDA3J - Socket 754 Motherboard
    • AMD Sempron 3000+ 1.8GHz Socket 754
    • TwinMOS PC3200 DDR-DIMM 1024MB
    • XFX GeForce FX5200 128MB DDR, AGP8X
    • Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB SATA2 16MB 7200RPM
    • Samsung SpinPoint P120 SP2504C - harddisk - 250 GB - SATA-300
    • Plextor DVD±R/RW brenner 8x/4x IDE
    • Sony MPF 920-Z - Floppy
    • 3Com 3C2000-T Gigabit Adapter

    Here is my installation issues:

    1. Did not boot from DVD (My daugther had spoiled jelly on DVD)
    2. No pointer @ first choice. "installation type" (Use Tab & Enter to choose)
    3. Infoboxes during installation did not allways fit in my screen 1280x1024
    4. Consistency check on C: on first reboot.
    5. New hardware Wizard lived its own life and ran on auto...
    6. No network adapter. (I installed latest driver for onboard LAN and got Bluescreen)
    7. Installed latest driver for 3Com 3C2000-T Gigabit Adapter. (OK)

After installation i have had no problem whatsoever. Easy configuration.

I have been using Samba on Linux for my fileserver, but MHS sure do the job.

My Read / write speed is close to 300Mb/s both ways witch is a 10% improvement.
Overall I am very satisfied with this product.
