  • If you are already an experienced .Net developer, then you should not have any trouble with the self-paced training kit. It covers all the topics of the exam and should be enough to pass it. However, keep in mind that this is not an introductoy material for beginners. The training kit covers some topics that are quite advanced, so you need to be already knowledgeable about .Net in order to be able to follow it.

If you find that the book is not enough for your needs, you may consider taking some instructor-led training. MOC courses numbers 2956 and 2957 cover most of the topics of the exam. However, they do require previous knowledge about .Net programming; these are not basic, introductory courses.

  • Hi!

Alberto gave you a good answer already. I just want to give you my personal opinion, too.

My experience with self paced training kits is very good. Even an experienced developer normaly never used all the available technology so it is a good thing to go through all topics of the exam.

But what I found very important is the practise! I played around with all stuff I found in the book and from my experience, the book itself is not enough. The book is just a very good starting point for your own practise. If you really take your time after each chapter and play around with the technology so you get used with the classes involved and how everything works, then the exam should be no problem at all for you.

(At least that was my experience with the exams that I did so far. If you are not an experienced developer, then maybe the Self-Paced Training Kit could not be enough. In such a case I would suggest another book that covers something in more detail. I wrote it multiple times in this forum: I had that problem with my SQL Database Developer exam where I had to read another book about T-SQL, too.)

I hope that helped you a little.

    With kind regards,

    Konrad

    My Opinion:
    -----------------
Go for Revised Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) for .Net Framework 4 / VS 2010

If your are a Windows developer go for 70-511 Exam or if you are web developer go for 70-515
You no need to take up the lengthy 70-536 (for .Net 2.0) since this exam is no longer prerequisite for MCTS
