Windows 7 Build 7601 0xC004F200 (non-genuine) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Advice appreciated. I upgraded from Vista to 7 quite some time ago, and now I get a "not genuine" error. I purchased my copy of 7 from the Microsoft website and downloaded it. I still have the receipt I think somewhere. I have not installed this on any other computer.
    Here is my MGADiag report:

  • Try System Restore to a point several days before you saw the error.

  • When I try re-entering my product key for my copy of Win7, a message comes back that Microsoft has blocked that product key. Nonetheless, I did try the system restore, but it did not resolve the problem.

  • Awesome. Same thing, and same general OS upgrade path, and from Microsoft store also! At least I am not alone. Earlier system restores did not work... I wonder if MS got hacked somehow.

  • Please observe announcements 1 and 2 at the top of this forum page.

In order to receive the best support, we request all users initially download and run the Genuine Diagnostics tool (MGADiag.exe) at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012. Click "Continue", click the "Copy" button then “Paste” the report into a reply message in a (seperate) thread.

Most Non-Genuine issues look the same regardless of the true underlying cause. So to help minimize the confusion caused by troubleshooting multiple different issues, we ask that all users create their own threads for thier own specific issuea.

In other words, please do not post "Me Too" messages in other people's threads.

  • Contact the Microsoft Store where you opened your account.  Several users are reporting that the Microsoft Store had a problem this week causing this sort of problem.  The Store is resolving the issue.

  • Yes, I contacted the Microsoft Store 2 days ago and they told me the problem would be resolved today. So far, no luck. They said the problem was related to a system change on their end. While that may help to explain the problem, I was disheatened to hear they were impacting so many legitimate customers without some notification.

  • I just wanted to update this thread.

There appears to have been an issue with the Product key Activation/Validation servers that only effected a subset of Digitally Distributed Product keys.

This issue has been corrected and user that were affected by this should no longer be seeing a Non-Genuine/Key Blocked error.

If you do still see this error please try the following:

    1) Reboot and then re-try Activating and/or Validating.

    2) If you still see the issue, please contact Microsoft Assisted Support (at one of the below URLs)

    Outside North America:
