    Question

  • Why the need to configure an email address for alerts, when we have provided an email address to get here?

    "We have recently changed our Forums Email Alerts. You need to set an email address forums alerts can be sent to. Click here to set your email address."

    If there are a few subscribers, who want alerts to a different email address, let THEM provide a second adrs. or whatever. For the rest of us, just use the default address (or if you have to have an address in a different field, copy the default automatically).

    What is the point of ths extraneous step?

  • The old alerts service was deprecated. We had to re create a new alerts system from scratch and could not repurpose the old email addresses. Those were live id email addresses Live Alerts system, not specifically forums address. The new alerts does require you to tell us the email you want us to send to. Then we have to validate it. The old email (the live user name email) was a black box that often didn't even work for people. With this change we have thousands of users who can actually now receive email alerts and they have the flexibility to change it to something that is convenience.

    Thanks for the note about this. We do not intent to provide users with extraneous steps, but in this case it was not something we could have avoided.
