Need help with Vista validation RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a Dell Vostro that came preloaded with Vista for Business. At the time, the retailer also loaded XP on it, which I used for several years without trouble. Recently my computer got a virus, and when I went to reload XP the computer would not allow it, so I had to start using Vista. This was perhaps a month ago. Now I am getting the "Windows not genuine" message, and have only used the Product Key from the sticker on the computer. I used the MS diagnostic tool and this is the response:

NOTE: the product key shown below is not the same as the one on the sticker.

There are a number of issues here.....
    1) your retailer had no rights to install any version of Windows other than that provided by the OEM for your computer.
    2) Your computer appears to have no proper BIOS SLIC table for Vista - or for the XP install that you got.
    3) the License in use here is an OEM_SLP license for Vista Business - which appears to be correct for your machine, but since it has no effective SLIC table it's unable to self-activate properly.

According to the COA sticker on your computer's case what is the licensed version and edition of Windows?

If it's Vista Business, use the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System Properties page to change the Key to the one on your sticker, and then activate by phone.
If it's anything else - let us know, as the chances are that your installation is non-genuine.
