Why can't I use the "Company Name" of the lead entity for System Views? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just wanted to add a new colum for the system view "All Leads". As i scrolled through i missed the field "company name". So i checked the systemname of the field and it was the same. I got back to the Views and tried to change another existing view and the same there: the field company name was not accessible.

So to proof that there is something wrong I created a new view for leads. In the new view i can choose the field company name and use it as expected.

So whats the reason i cant use it for existing views? It makes no sense at all!

  • Hi Tim,

I did some digging and finally found out the issue is a bug for Dynamics CRM 2013 having Update Rollup 1 installed. Fortunately I had multiple instances, having UR 1 installed and the RTM version. The "Company Name" was visible for the RTM version but completely disappeared when I opened the one with UR1 installed.

So, yes UR1 introduced this bug. For those using online, Microsoft might have fixed it since online versions receive updates more frequently. What is unfortunate is that Microsoft probably has no clue this bug exists and they probably don't have a fix for it. At least they didn't mention it here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2919956/en-us

  • Hi Tim,

That's strange; you should be able to add it to the "All Leads" view. For me it works fine.

Make sure you're selecting the Lead entity. Also, are you sure you haven't already added it with some other name?

  • Hi

    I' ve the same Problem.

My CRM Organisation is today 3 day's old.

Example the Systemview "All Leads". You can see in the field companyname is missing in the list.

But it is interresting if I create a new systemview. In this case the field customername is in the list.

This Problem i have for different CRM 2013 Organisations (online and OnPrem).

  • Hi Tim,

I see the same behavior in Onlne version. I am using trial version of CRM online. It seems to be a bug to me. I don't see any reason why the Company Name should not appear in the available list of Add Columns. I did noticed that the records can be sorted on Company Name in Configure Sorting option.

    Regards,

    Harjit.

  • If it has been renamed it would be in a different place in the list. Have you tried sorting the list of fields in the Add Columns dialog box by the Name column (rather than Display Name) to see if you can spot it that way?

I can add it just fine on my CRM Online (2013) instance

    Hope this helps.

  • Tim,

I don't find any issue while working on CRM 2011 or CRM 2013. So you should sort fields by the name of the fields instead of Display Name, match your exact field name and then make a try to add.

  • We have tried it with several Organisations some brandnew one´s and older one´s.

In some of the older organisations i can add the field or the field is already in the view. But in mostly the newer organisations the field is not available nor in the view. I con only add the field, if i create a new view.

  • if you customize it -- I did My Open Leads -- export a Leads solution and examine the xml you will see:

     <cell name="companyname" ishidden="1" width="100" />

So, it's available to new views and advanced find, but it is not something you can add to some or all of the managed views because it is "already" there.

Apparently some coder at Microsoft doesn't have the concept down.

And as of 3/11 it's still there.

  • This has been logged as a bug on Connect. You can vote it up so that it gets looked at and fixed:

Bug - Lead - 'companyname' field in view

  • I read the work around on the Connect entry.  It doesn't make any sense except to begin to dissuade me from just trying to patch up the xml.

I take it that removing or changing the flag on 'companyname' will not solve the problem.

  • Try the shorter version:

    https://connect.microsoft.com/dynamicssuggestions/feedback/details/834056/

You will need an account on Connect that uses the same Live ID as here, I think.

    Hope this helps.

  • I know this is an old thread, but I just installed CRM 2013 with the latest rollups and updates and one of my employees experienced the same problem. However, I was able to get it to show up (without creating a new view) by "playing around with it." I clicked on Edit Columns, and then clicked Add Columns. Then I sorted by Name (still not there), then I changed the Record Type to "Parent Account for lead (Account)" and sorted that by Type and then changed back to the "Lead" record type (still not there). I then sorted by Type and then sorted by Name, and voila, there it is!

  • Walaa?

Is that like voila'?  Can we at least get the phonetics right?  V not W.

  • Voila!! Walaa, or whatever you want to call it.

This is absolutely incredible and unbelievable, and I'm not quite sure why I followed your steps (maybe because my customer needed this so much and I was out of ideas? :))but it worked for me too!!

Thank you very much for sharing Nick.

  • Proof that sometimes we need to go "back to basics". Thanks for the tip - I came across the exact same issue this week and couldn't understand why I was not able to locate the Company name field. As funny as your solution sounded, this was the only thing that worked when I tried it out! So whoohoo! walaa! voila! Well done! :-)

  • Hi Everyone,

This issue exists in CRM 2015 as well.

Now it is really frustrating as this issue started occurring from CRM 2013 and still its not yet fixed.

Does anyone has any idea that when this issue will be fixed by Microsoft ?

    Thanks,

    Ravi

  • Wow, I can't believe that this worked. We went live on CRM Online 2013 and it wasn't there. We upgraded to CRM Online 2015 and the problem had not been fixed. I just followed your directions to the letter and it worked. I now have Company Name in the My Open Leads view and data is getting populated. I can't believe how point and click customizable this platform is.

  • WORKAROUND:
Change Record Type to Parent Account for lead (Account)
Change record Type back to Lead
    Sort on Name column
'companyname' is now visisble and can be added to the view

On a newly created view this problem does not exist.

  • I am experiencing a similar problem with Company Name. I wanted to add Company Name as a field to the native Opportunity Sales Process Flow. However, Company Name is not in the list of Lead fields available to add. Has anyone figured out a workaround for this issue?

NOTE: This is a Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2015 deployment in a partner-hosted environment. The organization was initially deployed in 2015, not upgraded.

  • Whoa!! I did the same thing to the "Lead Associated View". Changed to "Parent Account for Lead (Account)" then back to "Lead". Sorted by "Type" then sorted by "Name" and VOILA! it was there. Weird. However, this did NOT work on the "Lead List Member View". I don't have the option to change the Record Type. Apparently they haven't fixed this issue with CRM Online 2015. Thanks for the help!
