0x800CCC33 error in Outlook when trying to view Hotmail email RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Hi.

Ever since I installed Live OneCare (9 days ago), I can no longer view my Hotmail account in Outlook.  I get the following error when I try to Send/Receive:
Task 'Hotmail: Folder:Inbox Synchronizing headers.' reported error (0x800CCC33) : 'Access to the account was denied. Verify that your username and password are correct.  The server responded 'Forbidden'.'

I've tried deleting/creating a new account; changing the server URL to Live.com; adding live.com, msn.com, and hotmail.com to my Trusted Sites; enabling port 995 in the OneCare firewall Advanced Settings (though I don't know if I did this correctly).

    Thanks for any help.

OK, as it always happens, after reaching out for help, I found "a" solution, if not one that confirms that the original problem lay with OneCare.

Since I couldn't get any search results for "Outlook 0x800CCC33", I finally tried to translate the text at http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.it.windows.live.mail&tid=50cfca6f-b6cc-420d-a4f4-94151048aba8&cat=it_IT_9F9B285D-E4BB-4524-A107-1321AE8AF002&lang=it&cr=IT&sloc=&p=1 (thank you AltaVista Babelfish).

There was a post pointing to the Italian version of Office Connector (the English version is at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=9A2279B1-DF0A-46E1-AA93-7D4870871ECF&displaylang=en).

Now, my email is coming into Outlook (except it seems to be frozen in the middle of receiving).  Thank goodness.  Perhaps Office Connector communicated with OneCare to open the right ports, etc?  Perhaps the problem never was with OneCare?  Don't care.

  • Actually the problem had nothing to do with OneCare.

Hotmail access via WebDAV (through Outlook and Outlook Express and some other email programs) was turned off on 9/1/09 following repeated announcements over the past year. You need to reconfigure your email program or consider downloading Windows Live Mail, which is an update to Outlook Express and Windows Mail available from http://download.live.com

Help for Windows Live Hotmail can be found at http://windowslivehelp.com/Default.aspx

  • Steve,

With the whole respect, you seem not to understand the problem: Most people want to use OUTLOOK as their main mail program, to which all other mail will be sent, and not the opposite!

I have the same problem as the other here, meanly: 0X800CCC33 and i can't see any of my HOTMAIL messages through OUTLOOK. Outlook is much more useful and comfortable when you are at home (of course, outside home or outside office, like in public computers, Hotmail and other HTTP mail programs are the only ones available).

So, I'm still stuck with my problem. Anyone?

    Thanks,

    Benny

  • Benny, I understand completely. Did you follow the links in my prior reply? You can install the Outlook Connector and use Outlook to access your Hotmail account(s) to sync them or you can configure Outlook to use POP/SMTP for Hotmail access with no sync.
