MODS - Please update FAQ "How to update Realtek NIC drivers during Bare Metal Restore" RRS feed

  • Question

  • I recently had to restore a Win 7 64Bit with onboard Realtek NIC, and I have the usual problem of the NIC not getting enabled.

I found and followed Lara Jones' great post in the FAQs section "How to update Realtek NIC drivers during Bare Metal Restore", however this didn't work (even though the NIC was showing in the "Detected" list).

On searching further I found several people were saying to use the Vista 32Bit drivers instead. So I tried this and sure enough the NIC fired into life. I had previously tried the XP/2003 Server drivers as specified in the FAQ and had even tried the Win 7, and none of these brought the NIC to life. I hadn't thought to try Vista.

So my request is to the Mods; please update Lara's FAQ to suggest trying the Vista drivers too, and to also give the hint to check the status/activity LEDs on the NIC to determine if the drivers are working.

PC Specs: Win 7 64Bit. Realtek onboard NIC. PC Restore Disc version 1.8
