When i try to activate windows, it keeps telling me that it has been blocked from microsoft. I recently bought this computer off of craigslist and it just had windows 7 ultimate installed. i have the keycode and all but no disk. When i went though the test of authenticity on the microsoft website, it said it was a genuine copy. I dont know what else to do. All the people on the tech team on the phone dont seem to know what im talking about and get annoyed and tell me to call them back, so theyre no help.

Hello CourtneyMarie86,
As Noel posted, the seller installed a pirated copy of Windows 7, probably to make the computer more attractive to buyers.
They did the same with Office Enterprise 2007, it is also a pirated copy of a version of Office that is only supposed to be sold to larger businesses, educational institutions, government agencies, and the like.
If the computer did not come with Recovery Discs and the Sony recovery partition was erased (this happens quite often when people install a new OS), Sony will sell you a set of Recovery Discs for a pretty reasonable price, they will put the licensed copy of Windows Vista back onto the computer and it will be Genuine once again. Here's the link to order from Sony:

If i restore the computer, will it erase my cd/dvd burning programs as well?
Courtney HubbardThursday, October 28, 2010 3:42 PM -
Hello CourtneyMarie86,
Running the manufacturer's system reovery discs usually completely erases the user portion of the hard disk drive, then remiages it so that it is returned to "out of the box" condition, meaning that after you run the recovery discs, when the computer starts up again it will be just like it was the day you bought it at the store. So, if the computer came from Sony with CD/DVD burning programs already installed, these programs will still be there after the recovey.
If you're using burning programs that did not come with the computer, these will be erased so you will have to install them again.
Most modern recovery discs offer you a way to save your data before they being erasing the user portion of the hard disk. Just in case, I would recommend saving any important files to another computer or to other storage such as flash drives, DVDs, external hard disk drives etc. To find out how yours works, best to research the topic at the support pages for your computer at Sony.com.
